BillCutterz Review

Save money with BillcutterzThis is my BillCutterz review. I first came across BillCutterz.com while reading a popular personal finance blog called Christianpf.com. He mentioned it as an alternative to having to negotiate bills yourself. I loved the idea and jumped at the opportunity to have them lower my bills.

First off what is BillCutterz?

Billcutterz.com is a bill negotiating service. After sending them your bills, they call each of your service providers and negotiate with them on your behalf. They continue to maintain your accounts to ensure you are getting the best deal possible.

What bills will they negotiate?

They are willing to negotiate the following bills…

  • Electricity
  • Internet
  • Cable TV
  • Satellite TV
  • Cell Phone
  • Mortgage
  • Printing Services
  • Waste Management

BillCutterz will negotiate almost anything that is a service. In some states where industries like utilities are regulated there may be no negotiating allowed on your bill by law. In my state BillCutterz couldn’t do anything about my electric bill. But they were able to lower my natural gas bill, so I recommend just sending all your bills in to see what they can do for you.

What do they charge?

One of the greatest things about BillCutterz is that they don’t make money unless they save you money. When and if they are able to save you money on your monthly bills they will bill you for 50% of what they were able to save you. This can be reduced to 40% if you are willing pay them in advance for the savings. Otherwise they just bill you monthly for the 50%. If they are not able to save you any money at all, they will not charge you anything. This is because they are confident they will find a way to save you money.

Are they safe to use?

This was one of my initial concerns when I found out about BillCutterz.com. I did as much research as I could. I started with the Better Business Bureau. One thing to remember with the BBB is that to become an “Accredited Business” the business must pay the BBB a fairly large sum of money. That being the case don’t worry so much about the fact that BillCutterz.com is not accredited. Fact is, the BBB still monitors any complaints filed against the company. Turns out they have monitored Billcutterz for over 3 years with no complaints, as seen below.

Saving expert Katie DePuy

I had the opportunity to have Katie DePuy as my money saving expert. She was extremely professional and a pleasure to deal with.

I asked BillCutterz for a few pictures of the other people you may encounter in your money saving adventure.

My results

I first submitted my bills to BillCutterz.com on November 28th 2012. I submitted them electronically via their website; you can also send them in by fax or snail mail. I received a call from Katie the next day, she asked me a few questions about what I was willing to do with my service providers. Such as would I sign up for another year of service or was I willing to decrease my service if it meant I would save money. She then called my service providers, a few of my service providers wanted me to make her an account manager, we did this via a three way call that Katie set up, it was easy.

She called me back later with my results. She was excited to let me know what she had saved me; I think she has a pretty cool job. In my results I’m providing some of my actual statements so that you know that this is absolutely real and works.

Trash Bill Results

Before BillCutterz  $48/quarter

After BillCutterz $39/quarter

Savings after BillCutterz cut (40%) $2.16/mo or $25.92/yr*

*Some of the savings accomplished on my trash bill came from BillCutterz letting me know that I was paying for recycling each month. I won’t go into how I feel about this because it can be controversial but I am not going to pay for recycling.

Sprint Bill Results

Before BillCutterz $226.04/mo*

After BillCutterz $186.04/mo

Savings after BillCutterz cut (40%) $24/mo or $48/2 months**

*Just to help some of you understand why my bill is so high, Janna and I share our cell phone plan with family, so there are 4 phones on this bill.

**BillCutterz negotiated this rate for only 2 months. After the two month term they will re-negotiate this bill.

ATT Results (Internet)

Before BillCutterz $54.42/mo

After BillCutterz $39.42/mo*

Savings after BillCutterz cut (50%) $7.50/mo or $90/yr

*My December Bill below has a $13 credit applied to it for Nov’s bill. That is why the Bill for Dec is $26.42.

Scana Natural Gas Bill

Before BillCutterz $1.029 per therm*

After BillCutterz $0.569 per therm

Savings after BillCutterz cut (50%) $0.23 per therm or $5.52/mo or $66.24/yr**

*This per therm amount is an average of what I paid per therm for the previous year.

**The dollar amounts saved is an average based on my previous year usage.

Total saved so far is $230.16. I will update this total when they save me more on my sprint bill.

BillCutterz.com makes a ton of cents : ). I’ll admit, I’m too lazy to call my service providers every time I face a rate increase. I’m sure some may disagree with me but I hate calling these companies to begin with; most of the time I end up having to get mad to get anything done. BillCutterz makes my life easier and saves me money without having to pay any upfront fees or wasting my time on the phone with providers that don’t want to budge.

This is my BillCutterz review, it is not a paid review. I do however have an affiliate style relationship with BillCutterz.com. I will receive a small commission (at no cost to you) for people that I refer to them. You can either use my link to BillCutterz.com or you can mention our blog in the sign up process (Live Frei). Thank you in advance for your support.

Let me know how much BillCutterz was able to save you in the comments below. I’d love to hear about your savings!

you mentioned with your trash that part of the bill reduction was due to a change in the service. were any of the other services changed as a part of the bill reduction?

    • Jesse January 16, 2013, 8:27 pm

Hey Jon, none of the other bills that were lowered had any change in service. Only the trash bill. Let me know what you save. Hope life is treating you well.

Cool review on this service. I just BillCutterz featured on Lifehacker and wanted to see what kind of savings they can get people.

I just signed up yesterday and already got some savings. My expert is Veronica and she was able to get me almost $22 off my cable, internet and phone bill every month. She’s working on my electric bill right now, I can’t wait to see what she can get for me.

      Hi Jeremy,

That’s so awesome to hear that BillCutterz was able to save you money so quickly. Hopefully they will help you on the other bills as well. I was speaking to one of their reps the other day and they said they are now able to help with insurance products. That might be another path to go down as well. Good Luck!

I’ll have to tell my husband about this and probably other family members as well! If you don’t want to list not recycling here will you please e-mail me why it’s not worth it? I haven’t heard about this before. We could sure use a reduction in our cable bill. Brandon can’t give it up or reduce it so this would be a big help. They give you those reduced prices for a while to hook people and it sure worked on him!

      Hey Sunny!

It’s been a while, I hope you and your family are doing well. As for BillCutterz, they are the best, I honestly do not take the time to try and negotiate my bills lower on a regular basis. It’s mostly because I don’t have the time or patience to even attempt it. Give BillCutterz a call and get them to lower your cable bill. When I spoke about recycling I was not trying to give the impression that no recycling is worth the effort. I think recycling is great, but I can’t understand why I should have to pay for a recycling truck to come out and pick up my recycling each week just to turn around and sell it for the raw materials. I think several trash collection companies around the country bundle recycling as part of their trash pickup service. where I live though you pay extra to recycle. I guess it’s just a matter of principle. Good Luck!

Wow cool service. How are they able to get your gas rates down? Gas Power and Sewer are my big bills Water/ sewer is 150$ every other month in PO. Not sure if they could help on that one.

I am going to share this one on my Facebook page

    • Jesse May 20, 2013, 10:25 pm

      Hey Jeff,

I’m not sure how they are able to achieve the savings that they do. I’m just glad to be a recipient of it. After you’ve sent in you bills let us know what they were able to save you.

  • Angela June 13, 2013, 9:53 am

I used BillCutterz, too and they saved me about $360 for the year on cable and my cell phone. I wish the electricity and gas in my area wasn’t regulated so I could get them to lower my rates there as well.

Jeffrey, they can negotiate your electric and gas rates if your area isn’t regulated. My city owns the power plants and they have total control of rates and so BillCutterz can’t help me. Just send them your bills and they’ll tell you what they can do for you. I ended up sending them every bill I had, and some of them they couldn’t help with, like my utilities but the rest they got me savings for.

      Hi Angela,
I’m so glad to hear that BillCutterz was able to save you money, it’s always nice to have a little extra cash coming in. Fortunately, here in GA natural gas is not regulated. Unfortunately, electriciy is. At least they were able to cut some other bills.

I’m really glad that so many people have posted on here that they have gotten savings from BillCutterz. I had a friend tell me about them but thought they may be a scam. It’s good to see that real people have used them and saved. I guess I will give them a try!

    • Jesse August 8, 2013, 11:46 pm

      Hi Sophie!
I thought the same thing when I first heard about it. That’s why I chose to post my experience. I hope they’re able to save you a bunch of money!

  • Anthony Ianni January 22, 2014, 9:28 am

My question is how long do you pay the 50% that you save?
    Thank you,
    Anthony D. Ianni

    • Jesse January 24, 2014, 4:30 pm

      Hi Anthony,
To address your question there are two scenarios that you need to understand.
1.) BillCutterz saves you money by lowering the rate you pay for services.
2.) BillCutterz saves you money by informing you of services that you may not use.

In the first scenario BillCutterz is usually able to save you money for a contractual period of time. You would pay them for that time period of savings. Then when it comes time to renew you can try and call the service provider yourself and get your rate to stay the same but if you have BillCutterz do it they will charge the 50% for the new contractual period. In the second scenario, they charge you for the savings achieved on a 1 year basis. After that first year is up they will no longer charge you for that savings.

This is how I understand it, I will get with someone at BillCutterz to validate this information.

Great question, thanks for commenting Anthony!

I just found out about bill cutterz and i was super skeptic at the beginning but i decided to give it a try and see what happens ! Well , they are amazing! for two reasons: first reason being that once you submit your bills, some super nice person call you and ask you a bunch of things to understand better your needs and you really feel like this person care and what she/he really wants is saving you money! and the second thing is that they actually save you money!!! i submit several bills and although they where not able to cut deals on all of them i got a 40$ saving a month on my tmobile bill because i was basically paying for things that i wasn’t even using and they make you realize that and 10$ on by time warner cable plus i got hbo/showtime for free! so at the end is much more the saving!!
And Sam , the guy that helped me said that he will keep in touch with me in the next months to see if he can try to save me more money, and to see if maybe there are promotions around etc…!!Bottom line , it’s worth it! and even if you have to share with them, at the end you are still saving money! so, it’s fine!!

    • Jesse January 24, 2014, 4:32 pm

Very cool Jennifer, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I’m glad it was a good one.

I contacted BillCutterz with the hope of saving on my cell phone and cable bills. I got emails and phone calls saying that as a result of the relationship BillCutterz has nurtured with AT&T they could get me the best price on my cell phone bill. Turned out it was AT&T Next which by the time we spoke, I had already done on my own. It required no nurtured relationship with AT&T to get that offer. BillCutterz did nothing and after that oops I haven’t heard anything about the cable bill. Seems like BillCutterz is not what it’s made to sound like.

  • Liam April 15, 2014, 8:18 pm

You should also check out WhatTheWireless. They don’t negotiate with your provider to get credits, they actually analyze your cell phone bill and show you where you can save. They saved me over $700 a year and it only cost me a flat $70- one time. My boss is saving over $2,200 on her business plan. They guarantee you’ll save at least 15% or their report is free. Not to take anything away from billcutterz, but personally, I’d go with an actual reduction versus a bill credit anyday.

    • Jesse May 4, 2014, 10:11 am

That sounds like a great idea thanks for sharing Liam!
