First of all we want to apologize for being somewhat absent the past few weeks. The Frei Family has been busy and we had to prioritize things.

That being said we hope you enjoy this episode. Here  is the video Janna mentions. Enjoy!

DIY Dresser Redo

dresser beforeI recently saw this dresser sitting in my moms garage. For like 2 years. My mom is a busy woman with zero time to refinish furniture, so I did her a favor and asked if I could have it. 🙂

Ivory Satin Spray PaintShe agreed and my dad loaded it up in his truck and delivered it to my front door. (Such sweeties, they are!) Which is how this beautiful piece came into my possession, just begging for a re-do.

After sanding her down, she was ready for 1 1/2 cans of Rust-Oleum paint + primer spray paint in Satin Ivory Silk. This stuff is AMAZING! I didn’t have to prime beforehand and this stuff dries super fast, and a little goes a long way. I only used 1 1/2 cans to paint the entire dresser!

3 coats of paintI sprayed about 3 coats on the frame and 4 coats on the drawers. I waited 30 minutes to an hour in between each coat because the paint has to be DRY to avoid mess-ups. (runny/uneven paint)

I liked the dresser after I re-painted it, but I didn’t LOVE it, so I asked some girl friends for tips and I ended up using sand paper (manually) in conjunction with my husbands electric sander and I roughed it up a bit to get the “distressed” look. I LOVE it.

Almost done!

Ok so now I just need six cute drawer pulls. If you come across any worth mentioning, please leave a link to them in the comment section and I will check them out. I would love your input! Stay tuned for the finished product!

Easy Oatmeal Recipe

Our favorite thing to eat for breakfast around here is oatmeal. It can get pretty pricey and overloaded with sugar if you buy the packets, but I want to share an easy oatmeal recipe with you to avoid all that. I’m willing to bet that if you like oatmeal, you will like this.

You will need…

Oatmeal Ingredients

  •  Plain quick cook oats. I buy ours at ALDI for about $2.29 which is a lot better than paying $5 for the name brand at my local grocery store.
  • Frozen, fresh or dried blueberries. I buy a frozen bag at Sams Club for a little over $8
  • Brown sugar or honey
  • Milk or water
  • Salt

First, boil a couple cups of milk/water with a pinch of salt on high.

Boil it

Once your liquid is boiling, turn the heat down to medium and pour in enough oats to absorb most of the water.

Pour in oats

Pour in the blueberries. As much as you like!

Stir. You may need to add more oatmeal if there’s too much liquid.

Turn off the heat and add a few teaspoons of brown sugar or honey and mix well.

Make it sweet

(I got a little over zealous this morning and made enough to feed an army! There were leftovers, needless to say.)

This can be made in less than five minutes and it will keep you full for a long time. It’s a “stick to your ribs” kind of breakfast that is much more satisfying than cereal. Do you have an easy recipe to share? I am always looking for new ideas!

Zenni Optical Glasses

Remember how I talked about my sweet sister in my bad razor burn post? Well now I am going to tell y’all how smart she is. For years she has been telling me about a website she uses to order cheap glasses. It sounded REALLY sketchy to me years ago before I was even comfortable with purchasing items via the world wide web. I’m an old, paranoid soul.

But as it turns out, the site is legit! I have had a dozen friends recommend them, and even Clark Howard, the financial guru guy has raved about this place. It’s Zenni Optical. Have you heard of it? Were your scared to use them? Skeptical? Well worry no more because this site is the way to go!

Here’s what I did. First, I went in to my optometrist’s office and asked the receptionist to please print out my prescription. I was a little nervous she would give me attitude about it, but she pleasantly handed it over. Whew! The hardest part of this process was over! Then I brought it home, I went to http://www.zennioptical.com/ and picked out my new frames. I decided to go with their “Geek Chic” style, and instantly fell in love with these. Did you see that price?!?! $12.95! The shipping price isn’t bad either at a standard $4.95. So for less than $18, and one week later, I got these bad boys!Zenni Optical glasses

But before Zenni’s could send my glasses on their merry little way, I had to put in some simple information for my prescription. It’s just a few numbers for each eye and the website is incredibly user friendly. It completely walks you through the process to make sure you are getting the right stuff. My prescription came out perfect, and I am so happy to have a cheap second pair of glasses, heaven forbid one of my cute chilluns breaks a pair!

*I am not receiving any kind of payment from Zenni by writing this post. I simply just love what I paid for and wanted to share with y’all.* Have you used them before? What was your experience like?
