Time Lapse iPhone App

I’ve searched the app store for a good time-lapse iPhone app to use while putting up my pop up camper so I can show you guys how its done. I’ve tried several apps but they were all unsuccessful at capturing the entire process. Most of them would crash before it I was done.

This was discouraging until I found a cool app called Lapse It, it’s super easy to use and is an incredibly stable app. (I ended up paying for the Pro version because of the added features.)

Make sure to go to your settings and change the auto-lock feature to never so the phone doesn’t shut off during your time-lapse; also remember to change it back once your through. Here’s a few I did over the weekend…

A few things about how I do Breakfast…

  • I love using the electric griddle for everything breakfast, you can control the temps easier, and cleanup is easy too.
  • I cook bacon and eggs at 350 degrees
  • I cook pancakes at 375 degrees
  • I learned from my father in law about putting butter on the pancakes after the first flip; it’s a great tasting idea
  • I love taking this camping (be sure to bring an extension cord though)
  • FYI Janna likes to eat her pancakes with peanut butter and syrup

I had a lot of fun shooting these time-lapse videos. Now I’m looking for other things to lapse; it’s kinda addictive. I think I’ll do the sunset once I find a place where it could be done (I’m surrounded by trees). I was able to edit them with iMovie (I love this app!)

    I like to make my bacon on a cookie sheet in the oven. I can control how crispy it gets, it cooks evenly, and most of the fat drips off into the pan for later use. I’m not sure I’ll ever go back to the other way. 🙂

      Great idea Mary! You must use a wire rack to put the bacon on? Then I guess you’d put it in a cookie sheet with edges. That would free me up to work on other things while that’s cooking. Does it make much of a mess in the oven? What temp do you cook it at?

        Preheat the oven. You can bake it for 15 min at 400 degrees, or 25 min at 350 degrees. (honestly, I don’t know why recipes even tell you the time, because it’s always wrong because our ovens are all different, and everyone likes their bacon cooked differently). Basically, put it in the oven at a lower temp if you have lots of other breakfast to make, and at a higher temp if you want to speed things up.

        Line the edged cookie sheet with foil. Yes, place a wire rack inside and lay the bacon out over it as tight as you can pack it without overlapping. Check on it every 5-10 min or so (don’t open the oven too often or it will never finish) to check for shrinking. You can turn it over if you want, but if you forget it’s not a big deal.

        Tip: The bacon stiffens and crisps as it cools. So if you like it only mostly crispy but not completely crunchy, take it out BEFORE it looks like you like it.

        If you’re careful when you take the pan out, you should have zero mess in the oven, and a lightly greasy cookie sheet (the crusty muck is all on the foil, but it always leaks a little under the foil even when you are using super-sized foil). I like to reserve my bacon fat and make a delicious zucchini carbonara for dinner (or any carbonara!). Bacon fat is freezable, but has a shorter shelf life than most frozen foods. It still fries up just fine, but the taste gets pretty bland after more than a few months.

    Sweet, My husband and I just got I-pod touch’s. We are now looking for cool/useful apps. So far all the LDS apps seem to be my favorite.

      I love all the LDS apps! I just found out recently you can listen to the scriptures, in the Scripture app. I was using the mormon channel app for a while to do this which worked but I had no way of bookmarking my spot. Janna and I also love the words with friends app be careful it’s addicting. 🙂

    This is awesome! We love our griddle too; it’s probably our most-used kitchen gadget. Pancakes are so, so easy on it! I just tried doing the bacon in the oven for the first time a week ago. I liked it because it was a lot less messy–the griddle splatters oil all over the kitchen.

      I hear you on the bacon splatter; I still need to try the bacon in the oven. Mary was all over it when I first posted this.

      Maybe, but breakfast seems to be my specialty. Anything else I have to really pay attention to what I’m doing and even then I am not usually satisfied with the results. Good to know though, she must have been good.
